Pdf Summary
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC) and the Medical Review Board (MRB) had a joint meeting on October 27, 2014. The meeting was open to the public and began with opening remarks from FMCSA Acting Administrator, T. F. Scott Darling, III. The attendees included members of the MCSAC, MRB, FMCSA, and various other governmental representatives. The main topics discussed were the Driver Medication Questionnaire and the MRB Recommendations on Schedule II Controlled Substances. Both were reviewed and approved by the boards, with some members dissenting. The boards also developed language for the MRB Recommendations regarding educating certified driver medical examiners (CDME) on over-the-counter medications that may affect a driver's ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safely. Presentations were given on the Sleeper Berth Pilot Program Research and Driver Fatigue, the impact of Schedule II Opioids and Stimulants on CMV crash risk and driver performance, and recommendations from the Medical Expert Panel. There were no public comments, and the meeting adjourned at 4:30 pm. The minutes were certified as accurate and complete by the MCSAC and MRB.
