Pdf Summary
A study examined blood concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) among workers in various trades in the United States from 1999 to 2014. The study found that high-risk and construction occupations were associated with increased blood concentrations of toluene, o-xylene, and m-/p-xylene, as well as ethylbenzene at certain quantile levels. However, there was no decreasing trend observed for benzene and toluene among construction workers over the study period. The findings suggest the need for interventions to reduce VOC exposure among construction workers, such as the use of personal protective equipment and regular monitoring of biomarkers. The study provides valuable information for occupational health and safety practices in the construction industry.
