Pdf Summary
The Move More @ Work intervention aimed to reduce sedentary behavior in the workplace by prompting employees to take activity breaks every 30 minutes. However, a feasibility study found that participants did not find this frequency feasible and suggested breaks every 45 to 60 minutes instead. While objective physical activity data did not show significant changes, self-report data indicated that participants adhered somewhat to the intervention and took between 62% and 68% of the available breaks. Participants reported positive improvements in musculoskeletal health and work productivity. However, there were no significant changes in cardiometabolic health, psychological well-being, or occupational fatigue. The study emphasized the importance of creating a supportive social environment, improving communication from management, and providing training to the intervention coach. The intervention components were generally well-received, but improvements can be made, such as incorporating electronic methods for self-monitoring and providing more face-to-face contact with the coach. Future research should explore less frequent but higher-intensity breaks, involve employees in intervention development, and consider longer-duration interventions and multisite randomized controlled trials.
