Pdf Summary
A study investigated the relationship between stress, sleep, and the severity of building-related symptoms (BRS) in medically examined individuals. Three questionnaires were used to assess acute and long-term stress and sleep quality. The study found that individuals with BRS, regardless of severity, did not differ in their level of perceived stress (indicator of short-term stress). However, indicators of long-term stress, such as burnout, differed between the groups. Higher severity of symptoms was associated with higher levels of burnout and sleep problems. The study suggests that there is an association between symptom severity and measures of long-term stress and sleep quality. This has implications for the treatment of individuals affected by BRS, as both the environment and concurrent signs of distress, such as burnout or sleep problems, should be addressed. The study highlights the need to consider the heterogeneity of individuals with BRS and to assess both short-term and long-term stress in future research.
