Pdf Summary
The Annual Tuberculosis Symptom Screen is designed for individuals with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), who have been identified through positive skin tests (PPD) or blood tests (QuantiFERON or TSPOT.TB). This screening involves completing a yearly questionnaire to monitor symptoms indicative of active TB.

Although individuals with LTBI do not exhibit symptoms, feel sick, spread TB, or often show results on chest x-rays, the latent infection can become active, especially in those with weakened immune systems (e.g., elderly, diabetic, cancer patients). Active TB, unlike LTBI, presents significant health risks and is transmissible.

Each year, individuals should report if they have experienced:
- A cough lasting more than three weeks.
- Unexplained fever or fatigue for over three weeks.
- Coughing up blood.
- Night sweats.
- Unintentional weight loss exceeding 10 pounds.

Should any of these symptoms develop, immediate contact with Occupational Health is advised for further evaluation. Completing this self-screening negates the need for further skin or blood testing and, providing no symptoms of active TB are present, exempts individuals from needing another chest x-ray. However, it is essential to certify the understanding of these guidelines and obligations.

Moreover, LTBI is treatable with antibiotics, which significantly reduce the risk of progression to active TB. Individuals are encouraged to discuss treatment options with Occupational Health or their primary care provider.
