The medical specialty societies for occupational and environmental medicine in the UK (Society of Occupational Medicine/Faculty of Occupational Medicine [SOM-FOM]) and US (American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine [ACOEM]) provided education, policy, and advocacy during COVID-19.  Top leaders share lessons learned from COVID-19 that can inform education, policy, and advocacy in planning for future pandemics.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
  • Compare and contrast best practices and challenges for OEM professionals during COVID-19; and how their actions affected workers and workplaces
  • Identify steps on how to advocate for OEM to be an integral partner with governmental agencies in planning for future pandemics.
  • Start planning how their OEM practice and workplace can make plans to be ready for the next pandemic.
