ACOEM’s Essentials of Occupational Medicine program will be comprised of approximately 60 individual courses in 15 sections and provides an excellent and comprehensive introduction to the clinical, technical, and professional concepts of the field for the non-specialist or new entrant.
Workplace wellness refers to health promotion activities and policies aimed at supporting healthy behavior among employees with the intention to improve health outcomes. This course is an introduction for providers who would like to learn more about ways to foster a culture of health in work environments. Some of the implementation challenges are explored along with best strategies for employee engagement. The goals of health and safety programs are explored using an interactive platform, videos and Q&As.

Participants will explore the core elements of Total Worker Health, including the integration of workplace safety, health protection, and health promotion strategies designed to improve worker well-being. The course also examines the alignment of Lifestyle Medicine principles with occupational medicine practice, highlighting how coordinated approaches can enhance prevention efforts, support healthier workforces, and improve organizational outcomes. Learners will gain practical insights into how these complementary disciplines can be leveraged to advance comprehensive worker health and safety initiatives.

It covers epidemiology, pathophysiology and EB models like JDCS and ERI. Ultimately, the session provides broader impact of psychosocial risk factors, all while underscoring that the management and organization of work are fundamental determinants of employee well-being and organizational health and success.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be able to:
- Define mental health per WHO and ILO
- Differentiate psychosocial factors (e.g., job demands, control, support, work organization) from psychosocial risks (e.g., high strain, low resources, imbalance), explaining their roles in disrupting work ability equilibrium at session conclusion.
- List mental health consequences of psychosocial risks, such as depression, anxiety, burnout, sleep disturbances, cognitive decline, and suicidal behavior, in a session-end evaluation summary.
