ACOEM’s Essentials of Occupational Medicine program will be comprised of 60 individual courses and provides an excellent and comprehensive introduction to the clinical, technical, and professional concepts of the field for the non-specialist or new entrant.

The first course in the Musculoskeletal Section covers Musculoskeletal Shoulder injuries that are the third most common work related injury and accounts for 10% of all workers compensation costs. This course is designed to equip health professionals with effective return to work management which includes understanding job requirements and the functional ability of the patient with these problems.
Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be able to:
1. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the shoulder.
2. Describe common shoulder disorders.
3. Conduct a focused shoulder physical examination.
4. Apply decision making regarding ordering of shoulder diagnostic testing.
5. Demonstrate evidence based treatments for common shoulder conditions.
6. Manage return to work for patients with shoulder conditions
The course provides an excellent and comprehensive introduction to musculoskeletal medicine for the non-OEM specialist or new entrant.
