Webinar Recording: Addiction in the Workplace
Description

This webinar, presented by ACOEM and MDGuidelines, aims to start the conversation about addiction in the workplace, outline which questions should be asked during the care of a working person, and decrease the stigma surrounding these cases. Returning people to work is often more challenging when addiction is driving mental health issues or preventing long-term recovery from an injury or illness. There are also considerations about work capacity, notably in safety-sensitive work. A brief scope of the problem, an outline of evidence-based treatment options, mental health considerations, and case studies will be presented by occupational health experts.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
  • Describe the benefits of starting a discussion about addiction with fellow clinicians or care providers and the advantages for the patient.
  • Describe several critical questions to ask patients or other care providers to start the conversation about care related to addiction.
  • Contrast the different specialties needed for addiction care and the unique location occupational health plays in orchestrating return to work efforts.
