ACOEM’s Essentials of Occupational Medicine program will be comprised of approximately 60 individual courses in 15 sections and provides an excellent and comprehensive introduction to the clinical, technical, and professional concepts of the field for the non-specialist or new entrant.

This course covers Worker’s Compensation. We will look at how and why Workers’ Compensation Systems evolved in the US including their structure and function. We will look at trends in occupational illness and injury and review the role of the OEM physician in WC systems managing impairment and functional recovery. Incentives and disincentives evolved with WC systems and are explored.

It is for all healthcare providers caring for working age adults.

Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be able to:

  • Discuss incentives and disincentives relating to Worker’s Compensation.
  • Explain trends in occupational Illness Injury.
  • Describe the role of the Occupational and Environmental Health Provider.
