Testing for illicit drugs, alcohol and prescription medication continues to grow at the workplace and in communities (e.g., schools, sports). Improve your skills and your ability to support a Medical Review Officer with ACOEM’s training course. This training also meets educational eligibility requirements for the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC)’s MRO Assistant certification examination.

ACOEM has been the educational provider of choice for MROs since 1990. More than 14,000 physicians have completed ACOEM’s highly acclaimed training.
Upon completion of this educational activity, learners should be able to:
•    Discuss the prevalence and impact of alcohol and drug misuse in the workplace today
•    Explain key provisions of the Department of Transportation regulations, including duties of employers, collection sites, MROs and MRO assistants
•    Receive and review custody-and-control forms to identify correctible, potentially fatal and fatal flaws that require cancellation of drug tests
•    Prepare materials for review by MROs for all results that are labeled as positive, adulterated, substituted or invalid.
•    Support MROs in contacting individuals who need to talk personally with an MRO
•    Corroborate and document alternative medical explanations for non-negative drug test results
•    Serve as liaison with laboratories to secure needed information and order reanalysis or split-specimen analysis
•    Communicate with collection sites, laboratories, employer representatives, substance abuse professionals and MROs
•    Manage an MRO practice while minimizing legal risks and potential liability
•    Address medical confidentiality and information disclosure issues
•    Assess your skills through clinical test cases that simulate real-life MRO assistant experience
•    Are currently working or plan to work as an assistant to an MRO in drug testing matters;
•    Want to develop or improve skills in conducting alcohol and urine drug screening, evaluating results, and interpreting federal regulations governing truckers, pilots, other DOT workers, federal contractors and workers in the energy industry; and/or
•    Are preparing to take MROCC certification for MRO Assistants and need to meet MROCC educational eligibility requirements.
